Festanstellung, Vollzeit · Berlin

What we do
Merantix Momentum is a Berlin-based AI startup focusing on accelerating AI adoption across many industries through publicly funded research projects as well as B2B solutions. We work across several domains, including manufacturing, the public sector, healthcare, and more, and transform businesses as an external machine learning department using our core expertise in state-of-the-art machine learning combined with our culture of rapid iterations to build scalable solutions.
Your role

As a Staff Machine Learning Researcher, you will bring cutting-edge deep-learning methods from research into real-world applications, actively contributing to the latest developments in academia.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Develop, apply, and transfer state-of-the-art deep-learning solutions to open-ended real-world challenges within a team of machine learning researchers, project managers, as well as engineers.

  • Own and shape our methodological research strategy and focus, identifying mid- and long-term research bets that give us leverage in future projects.

  • Align our research agenda with problems arising in our client and engineering projects to ensure relevance and create value.

  • Lead and efficiently deliver across a portfolio of publicly funded research projects and represent our interests towards the consortium partners, including taking on technical lead roles in complex consortia.

  • Take a proactive role in shaping our project portfolio by driving forward our acquisition efforts and strategy.

  • Co-author and present papers at top-tier machine learning conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, or ICLR.

Your profile

The ideal candidate is an experienced applied machine learning researcher, proficient in software engineering and the latest deep-learning technologies.

You are a great fit for our team if this describes you:

  • PhD followed by 4+ years of research experience in machine learning or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ideally in one or more of the following areas: machine learning for structured data, interpretable AI, uncertainty estimation, representation learning, or Bayesian deep learning.

  • Proven record of research thought leadership (demonstrated, for example, by acquired large-scale research grants, mentoring research groups, habilitation or equivalent research achievements, or long-term strategic corporate research engagements).

  • Proven record of publications in top-tier journals or conferences in your respective field of study.

  • Passionate about working with a highly motivated team of experienced machine learning researchers as well as mentoring early career-stage researchers.

  • Strong skills in Python programming and data engineering.

  • Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, or Jax.

  • Experience with leading, prioritizing, and independently completing technical and/or research projects.

  • Leverage the tradeoff between rapid prototyping and best engineering practices (reproducibility, version control, code reviews, automation, etc.).

  • Experience with one or more of the following cloud providers: Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure.

  • Hands-on experience with distributed computing, experiment tracking tools, and orchestration frameworks such as Ray, Weights & Biases, and Kubernetes.

  • Working experience with proposal writing and project execution in large consortia, e.g., funded by the DFG, BMWK, BMBF, or the EU.

  • Fluency in English and basic knowledge of German.
